Enquiry about kitchen painting

• The first step is for you to take photos of your kitchen. Instructions here.
• Email or Whatsapp the photos.
• Include any notes or observations particularly of any damage.
• If you are considering new handles, new worktops or any other decorating work such as tiling or painting, please let us know at this stage.
• The same day you will receive an accurate estimate of the cost to prepare and paint your kitchen units.
• Along with our estimate, we will include any information or observations that may help if you are refurbishing the kitchen beyond painting the units.

• Let us know you are interested and we can arrange an appointment to come and see you.
• We will go through the process, time scales, answer any questions.
• On receipt of a deposit for 25% of the contract price, we will book in your kitchen for a mutually convenient start date.
• Please note that if you are having a new kitchen installed or starting a kitchen refurbishment project, history says you should plan to have the kitchen painted about 12 weeks after the builders’ or installers’ proposed start dates. If we turn up on our agreed date and your kitchen is not completed, empty and ready for painting, we will re-arrange to come back on our next available slot.

• We require a colour reference from you in writing at least 7 days before the agreed start date so we can make sure the paint is on site ready.
• We are not colour consultants, but as part of our service we can make general suggestions based on our experience of what we have seen over many years. We can lend you colour cards and send you up to 3 sets of painted samples to place around your kitchen to help you assess your final choice.
• We can recommend a professional colour consultant we work with, who charges 80€ for a consultation.
• On kitchen projects over €1500 we include a complementary one-hour meeting with our colour consultant who can guide you to final colour choices.

• We will contact you by email or Whatsapp 3 days before we are due to arrive to confirm we are on schedule.
• We will call the day before to let you know our arrival time.

• Before we arrive you should clear all work tops and remove any precious items.
• If there are open shelves, or the interiors of cupboards are to be painted or laquered, please clear them. Otherwise there is no need to empty cupboards completely, as long as we can access the inside of frames.

• Our policy is to turn up at the same time every morning and work up to 6 hours straight. We continue on that basis every week day until completion.
• We will leave down protection for the flooring and worktops for the duration of the job.
• We require an empty kitchen to work in. No dogs or cats running around please!
• We will leave the kitchen tidy every day, so you can use it, but please understand it is a work in progress, especially when the painting starts.
• We invite you to check over the work we do each evening. Either leave us a note for the morning, or talk to us when we arrive first thing so we can sort out any concerns as we go along.

• After the walk around to check the work and make sure you are satisfied with everything, we will hand over the kitchen and ask for the balance in full, as agreed.
• We will leave you a cleaning guide to help you keep the paint work looking good.

A well painted kitchen can look good for decades if treated well. Some tips based on feedback on 5-10,000 painted kitchens.

• Open and close doors with the handles.
• Don’t throw red wine bottles at your larder door and leave the wine to soak in for days!
• A paint finish is not suitable for some households with dogs and cats that like to scratch doors.
• Diamond rings can scratch glass, as well as kitchen paint.
• Turmeric will permanently stain paintwork, as well as stainless steel, laminate, and the toughest 2-pack polyurethane lacquers.
• Driving into painted doors with prams, vacuum cleaners and scooters may cause isolated damage!
• 99 times out of 100, we do not recommend clear lacquering over paintwork for extra protection. It is not a viable approach.
  • Enamels aren’t designed to be lacquered.
  • At best a lacquer is sacrificial and if it scratches, the painted door will still look scratched.
  • Clear coats are no easier to make good than paint.
