A good workman never blames their tools, because they have the best tools.
I think that’s how the saying should go regarding painting tools of the trade. Should, because it’s not that long ago that painters and decorators were the poor relations in the construction industry. Compared to a carpenter setting up in business, a painter could turn up on site with a carrier bag full of tools, brushes and sandwiches, with a ladder over their shoulder, and be ready for action. Not any more!
I just had to invest 3000€ topping up my painting kit for work in El Matarraña and barely made a dent in the essentials shopping list. Spray units, mobile scaffolds, compressors and a bunch of sundries don’t come cheap.
There’s a whole bunch of kit to fit on a decorator’s van these days to ensure an efficient and professional service fit for the 2020’s. So I will list them here and work through a few observations and anecdotes to help you decide f they are what you need. Any alternatives, please leave in a comment below.
