The following platforms are RSS readers, a form of personal assistant that collects podcasts and blogs in one place. It does this by checking special «feed» addresses for new updates and shows them to you. Each comes with its own bells and whistles.

Fountain and Podcast Index are bastions of the Podcasting 2.0 movement, enabling listeners to make direct payments in bitcoin to podcasters or musicians.
They, plus all the rest were very user-friendly, simply requesting I claim my podcast with my own validated RSS feed that I compile and host on my own server.

Spotify won’t accept 3rd party RSS feeds that contain video. Unlike all the above services! They require you to extract the audio and create a separate RSS feed. Jeez.
Amazon Music – Podcasting suspended my account immediately after it was accepted. No recourse, no explanation. Maybe my answer to their last dumb question foxed them. Which country is the podcast aimed at? I couldn’t choose the English and Spanish speaking world so I went for the USA. Based in Spain. I must be a troublemaker?!
Youtube podcasts – For security purposes and the wellbeing of all, they require a 6 second video to prove I am the person erm, in the 30 minute videos I am uploading? My drivers license too. And something else equally intrusive. Thanks, but, not bothering.
Acast – I signed up, gave them credit card details (on a near empty account) only to find their default option gives them control of your RSS feed, even giving instructions to redirect from Spotify. I’ll keep a hold of my own feed and host my own video podcasts, thanks.
Why Nostr? Because of that!
These monopolies play by their own rules, which are based on intrusive privacy policies couched as «for everyone’s safety». Their KYC policies, unaccountable banning and censoring, and record of spying on behalf of governments is completely unacceptable in a modern society. They have over reached and will become obsolete as the open platforms take a hold.
Nostr is the protocol to accelerate that transition to an open internet experience.
